NigComSat - Disappeared Without A Trace!

Posted: January 30th, 2009 | Author: David | Filed under: Company Fail, Government Fail | Tags: , , |

Nigeria’s $340m satellite (NigComSat-1) launched in May 2007 meant to bridge the digital divide turns out to be nothing short of a spectacular FAIL. In Nov 2008, the satellite suddenly disappeared without a trace leading to rumors of sabotage and a massive scam. Nigerian officials claim it had lost power and had to be “parked, like you would park a car”. It is supposedly now under repair (in space?).

That money could have been put to better use repairing Nigeria’s ailing infrastructure and creating employment.

    Did they even launch it?

Or was a massive 419 scam?

And what was the satellite to improve the quality of 419ers?

I think they did launch it, thus it’s in space and unable for the mechanics to get to it and fix it…
